They are mythological no longer.
In classical literature, chimeras were a mix of different animals to create a new one.
They, however, exist today in a new form. Pig DNA is now being mixed with human DNA to create a new, useful animal for mankind.
But this raises some disturbing questions. When pig DNA is mixed with human DNA, albeit to create a better host for growing transplantable organs, is that cruelty to animals, or is it imprisoning a human in a pigs body? Or both?
No matter how seemingly harmless, no matter how useful, I am convinced that chimeras are a mix that damage more than they fix.
