Getting off the Political Escalator

The problem with escalating political rhetoric, is that when that escalator reaches it's maximum level, the ride is over and no more progress can be made in the discussion.

Once a person is cast as the ultimate villain, what more can be said? The only thing left is to keep repeating the statement.  This makes for a rather exciting conversation for a few minutes, but after that, all the repetition makes it boring.

Overt attacks might energize those who are already convinced, but it is doubtful if escalating rhetoric actually changes minds and votes.

If it is a change that is hoped for, it's time to get off of the escalator. It won't be found there.
