The reason some people are serious might not be the reason you think. Sometimes a serious and grave demeanor is just a defense against looking dorky.
Plenty a serious face in a photo comes from someone who thinks they look stupid when they smile. I used to feel that way as a teen. Now, as an older adult, I am not so concerned with appearances, so I just smile away.
Overcoming self-consciousness can liberate those smiles.
